Corresponding member of PAS, member of SPIE - The International Society for Optical Engineering (since 1992), member of International Technical Working Group on Penetrating Radiation, USA (since 1994), member of the Polish Physical Society (since 1986).
The Professor is a Doctor Honoris Causa of Lublin University of Technology (2014), Opole University of Technology (2017), Gdańsk University of Technology (2019), and The Jaroslaw Dabrowski Military University of Technology (2019).
Prof. Janusz Mroczka, PhD, Eng., Corresponding member of PAS, was born on April 27, 1952 in Dębica. He is an alumnus of Wrocław University of Science and Technology. Graduated in 1976, he is still professionally associated with his alma mater. In 1980 he defended his doctoral dissertation, and in 1991 obtained the degree of habilitated doctor, in 1996 he got the academic title of professor.
Professor's scientific interests relate to the methodology of the cognitive process, algorithmization of the inverse problem, indirect numerically ill-conditioned measurements, spectral and polarizing analysis of scattered radiation in the description of the properties of dispersion systems, methodology for combining measurement data of different spatial resolution using deterministic and stochastic processing methods (data fusion), the use of time-frequency representation of signals in the processing of measurement data, the development of the method of moments in the analysis of dispersion systems.
Prof. Mroczka actively participates in the work of many organizations and committees, including: in the years 2001–2007 he was the Vice-President, and in the years 2007–2015 the Chairman of the Metrology and Scientific Equipment Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences (a member since 1993), who was elected in 2014 as the best scientific committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences. He has been a member of the Central Commission for Degrees and Titles since 2013. In the years 1991–1996 he was elected by the Directors of the Institute of Electrical Metrology at the Wrocław University of Science and Technology. In 1998 he founded and has been the head of the Department of Electronic and Photonic Metrology at Wrocław University of Technology. He has been a member of the KBN Interdisciplinary Measurement Section (18 competitions, including 6 Chairman).
Prof. Mroczka has promoted 25 doctoral dissertations (4 Cotutelle in France, all honored and last one receiving the M. Skłodowska-Curie award as the best doctorate in a given discipline in Europe), supervisor of 8 habilitations, reviewed 3 honorary doctorates, 56 professors' applications (1 abroad), 52 habilitations, 20 doctorates, presided over 45 habilitations, promoted over 200 graduates. The number of citations of his works is 1594, h = 25 (Scopus). His international recognition is supported by the fact that he is a member of many international organizations, including a permanent member of SPIE - The International Society for Optical Engineering (since 1992), a member of International Technical Working Group on Penetrating Radiation, USA (since 1994), member of the Polish Physical Society (since 1986) and that he was entrusted with organizing and co-chairing the International Symposium of Optical Applied Science and Engineering "Optical Diagnostics in Fluid and Thermal Flow ", San Diego, USA (1993). He maintains contacts with many research centers in: Rouen, Yokohama, Toronto, Preston, Marseille, Eindhoven, Berlin, Boston, San Diego, Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires, London, Padua, Lecce, Brussels, Tampere, Shanghai.
For scientific and research activity he has received numerous awards and distinctions, including: 2nd degree Award of the Ministry of National Education (1989), Award of the Fourth Department of the Polish Academy of Sciences (1993), FNP Professorship subsidy in 2005, Ministry of Science and Higher Education Award for Outstanding Achievements in Scientific and Didactic Care in 2014, Award of the President of the Polish Academy of Sciences for 2015, Prof. M. Suski Scientific Award, Professor Opoliensis Award in 2014, over 30 JM Rector Awards of Wrocław University of Science and Technology.
